Data Manager, Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research – Georgetown University Medical Center
The goal of Georgetown’s Office of Minority Health & Health Disparities Research (OMH) is to actively engage in research focused on reducing cancer disparities among the underserved and ethnic minority populations in the District of Columbia including African-Americans, Latinos, and Asian Americans.
Our mission is to facilitate, stimulate, and promote synergy in addressing the social deterrents of health in conjunction with biological basis of cancer health disparities via research, training, communication, and education.
Job Overview
The Data Manager plays a key role in maintaining OMH programmatic goals and supports program plans and utilizes volunteers as appropriate. Their primary responsibility is to manage and report data on cancer screening – collating, maintaining, evaluating and reporting data and metrics on cancer screening projects, including ongoing and future community outreach and intervention programs.
Additionally, they support projects - including research projects - for faculty and staff at the OMH. Examples of projects include studies in community-based research, screening and genetic counseling and genetic testing studies, behavioral studies, clinical interventions, smoking cessation studies and observational studies including survey research.
Further, they provide data management for faculty and postdoctoral researchers on the design, and conduct of research projects relating to a wide diversity of research projects focusing - for example , cancer prevention and treatment.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the OMH Research Director, the Data Manager plays a key role in maintaining Georgetown Lombardi’s OMH programmatic goals and supports program plans and utilizes volunteers as appropriate.
They interact closely with faculty and staff, including statisticians, research assistants and student interns; collaborate with Lombardi researchers in cancer research experiments and population studies; and interact with investigators and research staff on a daily basis to discuss issues regarding data collection, database programming, study tracking, data entry, report generation, and tabulations of preliminary statistics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Biostatistics, Database Management, Data Analytics or related – preference for a Master of Science degree
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in data management - preference for experience in healthcare focused research projects, particularly in data management relating to screening and survey data and large, secondary datasets
- Knowledge of Ripple, MS Access or SQL, SAS or SPSS, advanced programming and statistical skills in SAS or SPSS
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with cancer studies and with handling large datasets
- Clinical Trial Management Systems: 1 year
- Data Cleaning/ Data Visualization: 1 year
- SAS programming: 1 year
- Microsoft Access Database: 1 year
- Building Web-based Survey and Tracking Applications: 1 year
